Exploring the Green Spaces: A Guide to Parks in NE Bend, Oregon
One thing that draws people to Bend, Oregon is their massive, and well maintained, parks and trail system. There are somewhere around 63 Parks in Bend occupying more than 3000 acres when trail systems are added in. They all have different features and amenities such as covered spaces to reserve for events, disc golf courses, and playgrounds for the kiddos. Whatever you are looking for in a park you are sure to find it here in Bend.
This blog will give a brief description of each park in the North East quadrant of Bend. If you are not familiar with how Bend is situated Highway 97 splits Bend into East and West while highway 20 splits Bend North and South.
Al Moody Park:
Address: 2225 Northeast Daggett Lane
Al Moody Park is medium sized at almost 17 acres. The park has a lot of open, grassy space with a variety of trees scattered about. There’s a playground and activities for kids of all ages, a half court basketball court, picnic tables as well as a covered picnic area that can be rented through the parks department. You can also find walking trails in and around the park for a stroll or on leash pet walking. For your convenience, there are also seasonal bathrooms, a dog station, trash receptacles, benches and bike racks.

Big Sky Luke Damon Sports Complex
Address: 21690 Neff Road
Big Sky Luke Damon Sports Complex (aka. Big Sky Park) is located on the outskirts of east bend. This massive recreation area has many amenities and is used for league games in a variety of sports. There’s a baseball field, a softball field, and a large turf area with 4 regulation soccer fields used for soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, football, ultimate Frisbee, and many more. You’ll also find a decent sized playground, walking trails, a large off leash dog park, year round restroom facilities, and 2 covered picnic areas that can be rented for events.

One thing that makes Big Sky Luke Damon Sports Complex unique is the BMX bike track that’s found on the property and leased to High Desert BMX. To use the BMX track you need to be a member of the USA BMX and the fee is $60 a year. Races are on Sundays from March to November.

Boyd Park
Address: 20750 Comet Lane
Boyd Park is a small neighborhood park located in the Northeast. A typical neighborhood park, Boyd Park has a half court basketball court, a small playground, a covered picnic area, seasonal restrooms, and a small trail system.

Canal Row Park
Address: 1630 Northeast Butler Market Road
Canal Row Park is a medium sized neighborhood park with a few extras. When the canals are flowing you can enjoy listening to the rushing water while your kids play on a larger than normal playground area. There’s equipment for kids of all ages with a spacious layout. There’s also a unique water feature where the kids can pump water from a manual hand pump that runs down a course where it sloshes back and forth. There’s a good amount of grass fields at Canal Row as well as a few short trails, a covered picnic area, and seasonal restrooms.

Eagle Park
Address: 62891 NE Nolan St
Eagle Park is a large 4 acres park that is wide open with clear views of the surrounding mountains. In the middle of the large grassy field there’s a natural area with a cluster of local bush, plants, shrubs, and lava rock. There’s a unique playground designed to encourage a more creativity in play.

Hollinshead Park
Address: 1235 Northeast Jones Road
Hollinshead Park is a large park that used to be a ranch with an orchard. It was donated to Bend Parks and Rec who have kept the spirit of the park to resemble its former purpose. There’s a large renovated Barn that is very popular for weddings on the property. The park is primarily used as open space for anything from kite flying to field sports. There’s also a variety of trails winding through the natural beauty of the Hollinshead Park.

Mountain View Park
Address: 1975 Northeast Providence Drive
Mountain View Park is another basic neighborhood park with a half court for basketball, a playground, and seasonal restrooms. There is a good amount of open lawn for playing various games as well as a short trail system for walking.

Orchard Park
Address: 2001 Northeast 6th Street
Orchard Park is a busy park in Bend with lots of single and multi unit housing close by. The park itself is on the smaller end but it’s packed with things to do. There’s a playground with equipment for children of all ages, walking and biking trails, lots of shade trees, a covered picnic area, and a half basketball court.

Pilot Butte Park
Address: 1310 Northeast Highway 20
Pilot Butte Park is a historic Bend Park. The peak of the Pilot Butte was a lookout point for the town for decades. On the top of Pilot Butte you have stunning 360 degrees views of Central Oregon. There’s placards to read about the history, the land, and all the mountain peaks you can see with the miles and miles of visibility on a clear day. You can drive your car to the top or park at the parking lot and walk the trail that winds its way to the top. It’s not recommended for pedestrians to walk up the road since the road is barely wide enough for 2 cars. At the base of the Butte is a playground for the kiddos, a covered picnic area, and year round restrooms.

Pine Nursery Park
Address: 3750 NE Purcell Blvd
Pine Nursery Park is another massive park with something for everyone. There’s a decent sized pond in the center of the park that is stocked with fish for those who enjoy fishing. The Pond is also a favorite of the little ones who like to watch the ducks and birds. Another feature that makes Pine Nursery Park unique is the pickle ball courts that are heavily used with regular players, leagues, and tournaments. There are large sports fields that are rented out for league games for a variety of sports as well as baseball and softball fields. You can find miles of walking and bike trails winding through the natural landscape as well as a large off leash dog area. Pine Nursery is a popular park to rent the covered picnic area for various functions. The picnic area is flanked by the large restroom facilities and the playground area that has a baby section. The round out the fun you can also test your disc throwing skills out on the disc golf course. There are 2 parking lots for this park one is very large with dozens of spaces.

Providence Park
Address: 1055 Northeast Providence Drive
Providence Park is another basic Bend neighborhood park. There’s plenty of grass for relaxing or playing with walking trails around the park. The playground is a decent size and there’s a half basketball court as well. I’ll add my personal anecdote for this park, it’s a great place to catch the 4th of July fireworks. I’ve been here 2 times and you have a direct unblocked sight line to Pilot Butte and there’s plenty of space for crowds.

Rock Ridge Park
Address: 20885 Egypt Dr
Rock Ridge Park is one of the newer parks in Bend. It was designed to keep as much as the original footprint of the land and original ground cover. The park is massive with 2 large grassy areas divided by a acres of a natural lava rock outcropping. There’s paved and unpaved walking and biking paths winding all through the park with some decent off road riding and a bike skills course. On the corner of Egypt Dr. and 18th St. is a good sized skateboard park. You can reserve the large covered picnic facilities for gatherings of your choice. For the kids there are 2 play areas. One is a modern playground with some advanced equipment and a lookout tower. The other is a nature play area with a juniper log forest made with logs harvested from local parks and debarked. There’s also a water feature with a manual hand pump. I’ve personally witnessed many games of hide and seek on this side of Rock Ridge Park.

Stover Park
Address: 1650 Northeast Watson Drive
Stover Park is a small neighborhood park with a playground, a baseball field and a small patch of open space. What makes this park special is the amount of shade trees that surround it. You can often find shade here on a hot summer day.
